Peak
Communications Brings Competitive Telephone
and Hometown Service to the Metro-East
For Immediate Release
June 30, 2011
A
local Internet service provider has been approved to provide telephone
services in the State of Illinois with the addition of Peak Communications
to its partner company, Peaknet.
Peak
Communications has been certified by the Illinois Commerce Commission.
When the new company, which is owned and operated by Grant Wuller
of Belleville, Illinois, begins providing telephone service July
1, it will focus efforts on a three-county area—Madison,
Monroe and St. Clair.
"Switching to Peak is easy,” said Wuller. “Customers
who switch are able to keep their same telephone numbers and lines
because of an agreement between Peak and SBC/Ameritech.”
Peak’s new venture is the culmination of three years of
planning and working with government at various levels. The federal
government opened the doors for competition in the telephone industry
with the Telecommunications Act of 1996.
State Representative Tom Holbrook said, “The purpose of
deregulation is to help foster competition, and empower local
entrepreneurs to provide consumers with a choice for their telephone
service.”
" Peak Communications will give the metro-east consumers
a choice for local service and support,” said Holbrook.
Director of economic development and planning, Mike Malloy coordinates
Belleville’s efforts to encourage businesses to expand.
“The city has reaped the benefits of Peaknet’s support
for community activities in the past,” said Malloy. “We
look forward to working with them in their new venture and
applaud Peaknet for continuing to diversify the economic base
of the area.”
Wuller, who invests in technology regularly in other areas, is
intent that customers will talk to people, not voice machines,
to provide exemplary customer service. “It’s exciting
to be able to provide hometown customer service in today’s
world of automation,” said Wuller.
Beginning July 1, Peak will be marketing to both residential and
business customers, bundled packages that include local dial tone,
multiple features and long distance on one bill. By combining
local and long distance services, Peak customers will find their
monthly savings are considerable, according to Mark Carey, Peak
vice-president for sales.
