THE LITTLE CREEK WHERE RABBITS DANCE
(Little Dancing Rabbit Creek)
At bok chukfi ahithac, the elders of the Three Tribes, Sixtowns, The Potato Eaters, and The Long People, (see below) met three times a year to settle differences and to conduct business. On September 15 1830, the last Choctaw lands were ceeded here to the United States. All that remained were 500 acres held by the Missippi Band of the Choctaws. Within a few years none remained in Indian hands.
*The diversity of the Choctaw tribes is well shown in its three
major groups -- Sixtowns, the Potato Eaters, and the Long People.
I have been told that they break down as follows:
Okla Hannalli
-------------
(SIXTOWNS): A diverse group which included tall, short, lithe,
and stocky people. They were of dark and light skin
with nearly every shade included. Eye and hair color
were as diverse.
Ahi Apet Okla
-------------
(POTATO EATERS): Mainly of dark features, shorter, and stocky.
Oklafalaya
----------
(LONG PEOPLE): Taller than normal. It has been said that within this
group were many with red hair.
