Costner No Friend of American Indians

Many of you have wondered why I hold Kevin Costner and his "Dancing with Alley Cats" in great disdain. First of all the movie was the worst kind of drivle; just another white revisionist attempt to assuage the the liberal conscience. Costner was more interested in making money than telling the truth. Hey, I'm a capitalist, there's nothing wrong with making a profit, but there is something fishy with his motives.

"I felt like he was a friend who understood our plight. I thought he undestood what we're up against as Indian people. I'd have to be foolish to try and put a casino on top of a church. To us the Black Hills are sacred. They are a church to us." -- Phillip Underbaggage (Oglala Sioux Tribe Executive Commitee Member)

The land of the Black Hills was the home of the Oglala since time immemorial. Under the Fort Laramie Treaty of 1851, 60 million acres of the Hills were deeded to the Sioux. In 1868, a second treaty reduced that to 20 million, but still included the area around Deadwood, South Dakota. In 1980, the U.S. Supreme Court declared the Lakota Sioux the rightful owners of 60 million acres of the Great Plains, including 7.3 million acres of the Black Hills. The Souix Nation denounced the settlement of $105 million as an insult. The gold taken from the Hills over the last 100 years amounts to over $250 BILLION alone.

What does Kevin (who protrayed a deserting coward named John Dunbar) Costner do to repay the Indians who befriended and adopted him? He builds the Midnight Star Casino in Deadwood. Here, out the goodness of his heart, Costner allows the Indian people of South Dakota to apply for such top-of-the-line professions as washing dishes, sweeping floors, and parking cars -- all for minimum wage. Further, plans include expansion of the resort to desecrate another 600 acres of sacred lands.

  • Sure, Kevin has deed papers for the land, but so do the Oglala.

  • The atrocity of a movie netted Costner over $50 million.

  • The State raised loss and wager limits to help pay for the casino.

  • The State also added $14 million to help Costner build.

Thank you, Kevin your generosity knows no bounds.
